Course Title: Strategy in the Asia-Pacific Region

Course Dates: May 6-17, 2019 (weekdays only)

“Strategy in the Asia-Pacific Region” is a two-week course for mid-career professionals in the national security community; it is a graduate-level training opportunity for those who seek an immersive education in Asia and strategy.


Through lectures, seminar discussions, conversations with senior practitioners, and simulations, participants will learn about:

The Regional Setting

  • Enduring U.S. interests in Asia

  • Strategic geography

  • Demographic and economic trends


The Regional Actors

  • The great powers

  • U.S. allies and partners

  • Local flashpoints and rivalries


Strategic Concepts

  • Long-term competition

  • Military innovation

  • Deterrence


Instruments of Statecraft

  • Diplomacy

  • Economic tools

  • Intelligence

The tuition for the 2019 program is $14,000. This tuition does not cover lodging or travel expenses to and from Washington, DC.


Applications for the course must include a resume, a cover letter, and a brief description of the applicant’s current or potential research and/or topical interests. A recommendation letter may also be sent separately or together with the other materials, but it is not required.
